There are many different kinds of data security, but the main ones comprise:
Authentication — The process of verifying that the individuals who have access to your data are who they claim to be. This includes passwords, multifactor identification and other methods of identity verification.
Encryption – The process of turning information to an unreadable format so only those with the necessary keys can access it. This protects sensitive information at rest and during transit, such as databases, files, and email communications.
Monitoring – The practice that blocks malicious actors from having access to data or moving it out of your network’s security by blocking or preventing access at the gateway. This could include data loss prevention (DLP) technology as well as educating employees on the best practices.
Backups -The ability to quickly and securely restore data in the event of a system failure or disaster, cyberattack or data breach. This can be accomplished by creating copies of the data in a different format, or by keeping it in the cloud.
Data minimization is the process of only storing the data you need for your business. This helps reduce your vulnerability since hackers will have fewer targets to attack. This reduces storage costs, and could prevent bloat that could cause compliance issues.
